Weight Loss Tips - 3 Things You Must Avoid So You Don’t Go Insane While Losing Weight

Are you having mental issues with losing weight ? While losing weight can be physically challenging, it’s really all a mental effort. This is where I falter the most and the mind games can definitely be more painful than the physical challenges.
In this article we’ll talk about avoiding certain behaviors in order to be mentally ready to lose weight every day. First you’ll read about trying to keep a positive attitude about your self. Then you’ll read about the one physical thing to avoid while you are dieting and finally, you’ll read about how to keep your weight loss goals in your reach.
Avoid being over critical of your self
Being overly critical of yourself invites negative thoughts and there is more chance for failure. If you are a perfectionist, you’ll need to loosen up and realize that it’s very tough to be perfect when it comes to clean eating. We live in a society that rewards the opposite. We are tempted into eating badly on a daily basis. You’ll eventually give in once in a while and that’s ok.
One way to avoid your own harsh criticism is to set up a day where you have no nutritional rules. For example, make a commitment to eat right 6 days a week and allow one day for yourself to eat whatever you want. Also on this day, you should have no nutritional rules.
If you set up this cheat day for yourself, you will have something to look forward to and you can avoid cheating during the week because you know you’ll have a day to eat whatever you like. You are practically allowing yourself to bend the rules for a day.
Avoid starvation
Quite simply, if you are starving yourself and you feel like your starving, you’ll fail miserably. While you do need to eat less calories to lose weight, there is no reason to starve yourself. If your body thinks it’s starving, it will try to retain your body fat for survival purposes. Plus you will most likely go on an eating binge if you’re miserable enough.
While it’s very tricky to avoid physical starvation it’s even tougher if you think you are not starving when you’re trying to eat healthy. To try and avoid both aspects of starvation, you need to implement this one rule: Eat a protein source every three hours.
If your current weight loss efforts involve high protein meals, then you may actually beat the mental aspect of starvation and keep the integrity of the above rule. High protein meals could be more filling. If you’re a workaholic and if you have a timer on your watch, set the timer to go off every three hours to remind yourself to eat.
Avoid setting un-attainable goals
In order to be able to master the other two situations, you’ll need to set realistic goals. It is not necessarily setting the bar too high (because we should aim high) but setting an un realistic time limit to reach that goal can be devastating to your efforts.
For example, if your goal is to lose 50 lbs, you should set your goal to lose it in a year. Some people try to lose 50 lbs in 3 months. While it’s quite possible to lose the weight in that time span, it will be a miserable experience and you may set your self up for failure.
A more realistic goal is to perhaps lose 50 lbs in 6 – 9 months and set smaller goals to lose 6- 8 lbs a months. While you’ll lose a lot of weight in the first month, you’ll have to deal with less weight loss and plateaus in the following months.
So there you have it. Weight loss is a mental game as well as a physical one. While these three situations will help you, you’ll need to keep continue your education in losing weight. So don’t give up and keep moving forward in your weight loss endeavors.
