5 Simple Steps to get any Weight Loss Program Started Right.

Having a plan and setting goals is the best way to start, or revive, any diet. There is a lot of confusing information out there about shedding pounds. Unregulated and unhealthy supplements, fat creams and much more junk pollutes are computer and television screens with their lies about how to shed crazy amounts of unwanted fat in no time with little exercise. The only right way to succeed in any program is to begin with baby steps and small goals that won’t leave you feeling confused and frustrated in your mission to better yourself.

Ask Why

Ask yourself “What is going on inside me that makes me want to pig out right now?” If the answer is not because you’re hungry, then you need to confront head on what the real issue is.  If you are tired, then a nap is clearly the choice there. If it is the fact that you are lonely, bored or stressed then invite over a friend for a relaxing evening at home or a fun night out. Watch a movie, listen to music or read a book. There are different ways to feed your emotions than with food.

Write Down What You Eat

Every little bit that enters your mouth. Don’t leave out anything. Promise to show a friend and be honest. Realizing that someone will read what you fuel your body with might make you think about having that extra piece of cake for dessert.

Eat to Lose

Cutting back on what you take in might lead your body to go into starvation mode. When you deny yourself, your body has to make up for a lack of calories by holding on for dear life to its fat stores and use muscle or lean tissue to keep functioning. In turn, it will take even less calories to gain weight and you will have no energy to lose it. Don’t screw up your metabolism. An extra 35 calories are burned off every day for each pound of muscle you have.

Don’t Stop Eating What you Like

If you do, you’re just sabotaging every commitment and effort you put into this. Moderation is the key here. Have a piece of cake or some ice cream occasionally, guilt free. Just not every day. Prevent yourself from losing it and binge eating. You must eat the good stuff in moderation too. It goes both ways. Increase your chances of getting all the nutrients your body needs by eating a variety of foods.

Start Small, Get Strong

There are so many different ways of getting beneficial exercise that it’s impossible not to find one you can enjoy and stick to. It’s always good to change it up every now and then so you don’t get bored with a routine. Dancing, swimming, gardening, walking and even housework can count if you can keep your heart rate up. Try to break a sweat and raise your body temperature. You can split your routine into 3 ten minute sections throughout the day. Keep at it and increase your time and activity level when it becomes too easy.

Baby steps can work wonders in all areas of your life, but especially in losing weight. Make small goals and work towards them. When you’ve accomplished one, reward yourself and set another. Always make your goals attainable. Don’t get down on yourself if you haven’t progressed as fast as you thought or as fast as you’d like. Take pride in what you have achieved and use that for encouragement to continue pushing forwards.
